Recommended listening this week.
Speaking of psychology: Online communication
Psychological insight: Really interesting insights into online communication with Andrew Brodsky, the author of Ping: The Secrets of Successful Virtual Communication. I particularly liked the point about starting to brainstorm by generating ideas alone.

Campaign podcast: Pretesting
Psychological insight: Great discussion around the benefits of testing adverts before running them live. Relates in particular to self-report bias and all the distractions that occur in real life when people view adverts (known as ‘cognitive load’).

Brainy Business: Mind state
Psychological insight: This is a rebroadcast, but an interesting discussion around consumer states of mind and how approaches to communication might depend on the consumer’s mind state.
The Psychology Podcast: Richard Wiseman
Psychological insight: I always love listening to Richard Wiseman. This particular interview includes psychological discussion of perceived paranormal activity.
Nudge: Recruitment decisions
Psychological insight: Another discussion with Gerd Gigerenzer, this time considering the decision making steps invoked in recruitment. Interesting point too about how an exceptional ability can be a heuristic signalling a candidate’s broader range of potential abilities.
